Empower Your Soul

Listener Q&A and Spiritual Guidance

Medium Nicole Season 1 Episode 93

Diving into listener emails, I address questions about distinguishing between psychic abilities and mediumship while offering guidance on spiritual development challenges.

• Most teachers in the spiritual space provide incomplete information about psychic versus mediumistic work
• Your intuition comes from your higher self, while psychic work connects energy-to-energy with others
• When choosing spiritual teachers, look for those who acknowledge multiple approaches and remain open to learning
• Creating a solid financial foundation before diving into spiritual work full-time is part of responsible spiritual development
• For meditation struggles, pair practices you find challenging with rewards that motivate you
• Walking meditations or setting intentions during routine activities can help busy people connect with spirit
• Spirit connection provides both guidance and healing energy that resets your brain and energy system

If you're looking to develop your mediumship abilities with integrity, consider joining our Mediumship Mastermind on Monday nights where I provide direct feedback on your energetic connections.

Speaker 1:

Hello there, welcome back to Empower your Soul. Today I thought I'd take a moment to do some listener Q&A. I, honest to God, I need to go through my inbox a little more than I do, so please don't mind me at all, because I just get totally distracted all the time. Yep, I do, I do so. But here we go In terms of the my podcast email. Let's go. So. First one is from I'm just going in kind of chronological order here. First one I have is from Roz, who says I love your podcast. Everyone I listen to makes so much sense, so open for spirit. I don't suppose you have any part-time positions open. So first of all, Roz, I thank you so much for listening to the podcast. I don't have any part-time positions open, but I will let you know. I just love this because when I receive a message like that, to me this is a sign from spirit, because I keep thinking about do I hire somebody to help me do all this admin stuff that I, to be honest with you, I kind of loathe, right, I just told you I don't. Really I'm not very good at staying on top of my email. So, um, thank you, roz for the sign from spirit there and I am. I'm going to gratefully acknowledge you and thank you so much for listening to the podcast and say, uh, I will reach out if, if that changes at any point. But I'm also a workhorse and I don't stop doing my own things because I'm a control freak. I'm sorry, roz, I'm sorry, it's true, all right.

Speaker 1:

Next one up is from Marianne and she has a really good question here. So she said hi, nicole, I just listened to your most recent podcast on why your psychic keeps talking about your ex. I loved that and I brought it up. So, and it brought up so many more questions. I'm a developing psychic medium and I'm taking courses at the College of Psychic Studies. I'm still in the foundation level classes.

Speaker 1:

What you said makes so much sense because I've noticed my ability to do practice readings with others in the class is largely dependent on information that I can pick up, on something in them that resonates with me. If that makes sense, it does. That makes complete sense to me, marianne, even when I was getting mediumistic info. I'm questioning that now. As a developing medium and psychic. What are some questions I can be? Asking the instructor to help me distinguish what is getting? What am I getting from my intuition? Or what am I getting from spirit? The spirit, the instructor said don't worry about your it's if it's your intuition. Needless to say, I won't be taking another class with him for that and other reasons.

Speaker 1:

Oh my God, so right, marianne? Right, there's so many bad teachers out there there's not many that I've worked with that I would recommend to be totally honest with you. So I'm with you. Um, are there things we can look for in instructors when we take classes to learn about this work, so we're not fumbling around and relying on our intuition rather than with spirit? I hope that makes sense.

Speaker 1:

I really want to do this work and do right by this work. So, number one, marianne, I just want to give you a round of applause for your integrity here. And this is what happens when students become the teachers, but they don't discern things for themselves or they just kind of take and regurgitate what they've learned. And I don't know anything about the College of Psychic Studies, so I might have to Google that one a little bit. But there is just rampant misinformation within the psychic medium teaching space and this is not a I'm going to be kind and then I'm not going to be kind. I don't want to throw anybody under the bus, because I think that people tend to teach what they've been taught. But what that means and that comes from high integrity, that comes from a love of the work and wanting to spread and help people become psychics and mediums, and I love that. I think that's a wonderful way, I love that it's not gatekeeping, you're taking your time and your energy to teach people.

Speaker 1:

But very early in my career as a medium I think it was probably a year and a half in I went to, I did a spiritual assessment and my reader told me spirit doesn't want you to teach yet and I said, okay, that's fine. I mean, I wasn't ready to teach. I was told I was going to be teaching, but they're like not yet, not yet. And that was a little tough for me to swallow, to be honest with you. But the reason is is because I had been taking classes from people who were not the best teachers right, they're very closed minded. They were people who saw things one way. It was black and white, and that's exactly what I would have been teaching had I started teaching there, and instead I had to almost take 10 steps back and really think about how I wanted to teach and what I wanted to teach, because doing psychic and mediumship work is not rocket science.

Speaker 1:

It is those of you that do it. I'm sure you will back me up. It is not rocket science. Someone needs to kind of show you how to connect if you're not sure how to connect. But other than that, it tends to be just be just practice, practice, practice to increase your accuracy and your quality, right, however, there are, I'm gonna say that's that's teaching the what. That's teaching the like what do you do? How, like what? What do you do to connect to spirit? Like, how do you get the information in? But it doesn't really go into the why of why does this work right? How can we actually connect to spirit? Why is it that we receive information through the clairs? Why is it that something's coming in accurately and something's coming accurately right? Why is there no consistency across my readings? And these are the questions that I felt like I needed to figure out before I became a teacher, because for me it was teaching an incomplete picture. And so this goes to kind of your point, marianne, here about how do you find an instructor, and I think green flags for instructor are teachers who realize that they're not the only ones in the space, that they realize there's multiple ways to do this and that, like, could you even imagine how much we don't know about the spirit world yet? So I am the first person to say that I am not the best teacher. I am the first person to throw myself under the bus and say this is how I do it, but do it in the way that you want to do it. Those are green flags to me. And then also teachers that are patient, that are kind, that take your questions and really mull them over and I'm going to say, reflect back the integrity that you have back at you with answering those questions. Those are the best teachers. I mean, those are the best teachers. Marianne.

Speaker 1:

So in terms of your specific question about how do you tell if it's mediumship or psychic or your intuition, and again, the easiest way that I separate out the two, I feel like your intuition is your higher self. I feel like this is your higher self giving you your information, which is essentially you. You are a spirit, so you're just picking up on the energetic cues of the things that are around you. So I liken it to the higher self because I think it's easier to explain. But it's you, it's your energy picking up on these things. It's your intuition, right? Psychic is when you're connecting again energy to energy with somebody, and then mediumship is when you're connecting to the spirit. There's two ways. One is accessible but questionable. The other is less accessible but accurate. So the way, the way that I was taught and it does work is that you can actually just in your head ask if the information is being picked up via psychic or through mediumship.

Speaker 1:

So, like you can walk around a fair, like a psychic fair, with all sorts of readers, you can walk around to a whole bunch of mediumship readers and walk around and say, are they reading psychically or mediumship? And your intuition should pop in to tell you generally how they're reading. Now, mind you, not super accurate, right, like. So you have to trust your intuition. You might second guess it, but you've got to get. You have to go with what your first gut instinct is there and just trust it, right? Is there a way to test the truthfulness? No, not really, but just go with what it says. And if you're walking around these fairs and picking up more on psychic and less on mediumship, that's probably the truth, right, that's your indicator of success, because most mediums, again, are psychics Very, very good psychics, mind you, but psychics nonetheless.

Speaker 1:

The other way is that again, I'm going to humble brag here for a moment, but when I became a teacher, spirit like opened the curtains in a whole new way for me. That allows me to really check on the energetic integrity of my students. So, and those of you that have been my students, you know like I can tell, I can literally just tap into you while you're reading and be like no, you're in the psychic energy, go up, or you're in the Akashic energy, come down. And so I can kind of guide you to what the right energy is to make sure you have the best connection from a mediumship perspective or a psychic connection, if that's what you're looking for. So I guess maybe in this, in this instance, I would recommend joining in on the mediumship mastermind, because I hop in, like I we do every week, every Monday night, eastern Time, we're doing some sort of a breakout circle. So I'm teaching every other week and then we're just doing a practice circle every other week, but you get partnered up with me sometimes, right? So I, while I'm in there, I'm coaching you, I'm giving you feedback. I'm showing you, I'm like, hey, check your energy, because I want you all to be successful, and that's the whole point of this. This isn't a full on mentorship, right. You get like 15 minutes with me, maybe every week. You get like 15 minutes with me, maybe every week if you're lucky. Right, it's the luck of the Zoom breakout room, gods, but that's what the reality is. So if you're looking for a more accurate read, marianne, you can come to that. You can sign up. I do have, for the rest of this month, spiritual assessments that I have out on my website. This is a temporary service offering. I think it's going away soon, but give it a try, I don't know. But, yeah, I would just say, stick with your gut, your intuition, on your instructor. If he doesn't feel right, then he doesn't feel right, and you're just going to have to trust that and go with that and there's not much else to it. I hope that answers your questions, marianne. Oh, my goodness.

Speaker 1:

And then Sarah over here emailed me a couple weeks ago and her email is delightful. And, sarah, I know I haven't responded. I'm so sorry, but I did read through it all and you had me in tears and I'm going to see. Um, I'm just going to skip to the very end of this, sarah. She goes through an amazing, amazing email about how she's been listening to the podcast. She's binged a lot of the episodes, and then she talks about the episode I have about spirit or ego and all of the steps it takes with her and her family I'm going to say it that way to kind of go through and stick to her guns about, you know, medical things that are going on with her family and it's just, it's just so interesting because what she reflects here in this email is essentially kind of what I went through in my beginning as well, and I'm not going to rehash that episode.

Speaker 1:

But again, in this work, a lot of times you'll have readings from other people that tell you you're meant to do this work. You might have downloads from spirit. I'm meant to do this work, this is what I'm supposed to be doing. I'm supposed to be healing, I'm supposed to be doing this right. And our egos want to put that in place and say, okay, great, let me, I am the best. No offense, I'm the best, let me go do this right. And so it can just get that journey of separating out your ego versus spirit and what that journey should look like. No one talks about it, and I just want to thank you so much for this email, sarah, and what your journey was with this as well.

Speaker 1:

And what I'm going to read here is the I think the second to last paragraph, and she said the day I heard your spirit or ego episode, I was feeling so frustrated that I couldn't just quit my job and dive into my spiritual work. I've had so many signs that mediumship is where I'm supposed to be. I feel overwhelmed trying to balance her daughter's school and medical care and the medical billing company and growing the business, and your episode helped me reframe things. It reminded me that being practical and creating a solid foundation before taking this leap is part of the process. Spirit may not care about my day-to-day expenses, but I still have to navigate this human experience responsibly. This episode gave me so much clarity and reassurance.

Speaker 1:

Thank you for sharing your wisdom and continuing to put your podcast out in the world. It made a huge impact on me and I'm so grateful for it. Thank you so much, sarah. So, yeah, I'm so glad. I'm so glad that episode resonated so much for you. I have to tell you that's like the number one episode I tell clients to go listen to. I'm like, have you do? You know I have a podcast. Go listen to this episode because a lot of people are struggling with this, wanting to leave I mean, the world's a mess like wanting to leave their jobs because it's not fulfilling, it's not aligned with them and being financially able to leave.

Speaker 1:

That's a whole different. That is a whole different thing, right? And when we're getting these downloads from Spirit and we think they're going to take care of everything, it's very unrealistic. And I think they do care about our day-to-day expenses. But what is so cool in this? And I was actually meditating this morning and I need to get back to that I tend to just go and let the downloads come to me as I'm busy throughout my day, but I made space for Spirit this morning and they told me they're giving me the gift of time right now. Like they're giving me the gift of time right now. So there's something about just allowing and flowing and letting things come in when they're supposed to come in and if it's meant to work out, it's going to work out. Supposed to come in, and if it's meant to work out, it's, it's going to work out, but make sure you have the structure in place to support you in making some of these decisions. So, yeah, I'm, I'm so glad, sarah.

Speaker 1:

There's not enough words I can say for your email. I just want to thank you so much for being so vulnerable, honest, open with me and I just your email was profound for me. So thank you so much, sarah, and if you haven't listened to that session yet or that reading yet, I completely, completely suggest you do so. Okay, this one is from a while ago. I'm so sorry, alicia. So Alicia sent me a note and it said good morning to you.

Speaker 1:

I'm fairly new to your podcast. Absolutely love it. By the way, since a young age I've seen people who have passed not many, I think three in total. I've also felt the room shift, maybe again, not often. I've talked to a couple mediums. Once I did a brief mentorship with. I learned a few things. My dad came through twice. I saw a young, maybe eight or nine-year-old boy, shy, not wanting to come through, but did. I saw an angry woman near him. I knew the woman was harmed or killed this child. My medium said that she would take care of her later. Ooh, how did your medium do that, alicia?

Speaker 1:

Right now I feel clogged mentally and emotionally, like I can't figure out how to relax, meditate or settle down long enough to listen to my spirit guides I've been told I have seven in total. I can't hear them as often as I want, do you? How do you settle down, meditate? That's so funny because I did that this morning. Not planned, everybody not planned so that you can learn how to listen. What are more tips to be proactive, to opening up? Sorry for the rambling. I need, I need to schedule a session. Okay, so I think you have, alicia, I can't remember. Sorry, I just I gotta go. I get a lot of people. I love you all and then I'd like to not.

Speaker 1:

This is a me problem. I like to not take notes on my clients or write anything down about our sessions because most of the time when I've channeled the information it's in one ear and it doesn't stay in my brain long enough to actually recognize. So a lot of you who have booked multiple sessions, please don't get offended if I totally forgot what your situation was. I don't take notes because I like to start from scratch every time, because if I, if I, took notes in my system on who you are, what dead people. I pulled through like, um, I feel like that's cheating and I'm not going to do that, not doing that. So there we go.

Speaker 1:

So, in terms of feeling clogged mentally and emotionally, this is me right now, alicia, like this is me. I can't figure out how to relax. I, this morning was the first time I meditated in months. Um and so, for me personally, because you're having trouble settling down and, alicia, I'm like tapping into your specific energy right now. I hope you don't mind, but what I'm getting is for you.

Speaker 1:

You are busy, you like to stay active, and that's okay. So I like to recommend, like walking meditations for some of my clients, things where you're active. So I don't know if you exercise, or I don't know if you can go outside, go for a walk, I don't know if you can set the intention to while you, while your brain is on autopilot or, sorry, while your body is on autopilot, doing something like walking, doing the dishes, etc. Open up your mind and go into that meditative state while you're doing that and see what comes through. Right, in terms of how to relax. I mean that a that's a can of worms, right? I would just say find out where.

Speaker 1:

Where in your life are you wasting time Like? Are you scrolling on the socials all the time? Are you distracting yourself? Are you watching too much Netflix? Right, how are? How are you distracting yourself from life and keeping your brain and or your body occupied because you're anxious? Because that's a coping mechanism, right? Your coping mechanism is I'm not going to sit in the energy of my body, so my body is going to go into fight or flight mode because I'm eternally in this overstimulated mental state. So that leads to fight or flight.

Speaker 1:

Whenever you get a free space, that kind of questions that, and then your body goes into into flight mode. But for you, alicia, it sounds like, um, that causes you to go do things and distract yourself, right, because that's easier than sitting in the blank space and seeing what comes through. And like no judgment, with me saying this because I'm the same exact way, for the record, okay, so in terms of how to relax, I would honestly, um, find out what you can remove from your schedule or what can you shift in your schedule, even if it's 10 minutes, like it doesn't need to be a ton of time, but like 10 minutes in your day, and take that 10 minutes and say I'm going to, I'm going to meditate, and then what can you tap? When can you tack onto the end of the meditation or that quiet time that makes you feel really good? So this morning, I mean, I it's like I'm a brand new person today Hopefully this is just a one day thing Like I got up this morning and I ran for a few miles right on my treadmill Not outside, it's still bloody cold up here in New England but I ran on the treadmill for a couple hours, got the kids on the bus, and then I came back and I showered, etc.

Speaker 1:

Then I still had time before my clients. And you know what I said I'm going to sit down, I'm going to, I'm going to sit and I tossed on like a shamanic journeying track and I did a shamanic journey this morning. So that's my version of meditation. And I just sat with it for 30 minutes, which is way longer than I expected them to, but they told me 30 minutes. So I sat down and then afterwards I got up and I got a cup of coffee and it made me feel really fucking good.

Speaker 1:

So I want you to think about meditation. See, this is it? So you have to pair the things you hate with the things that you love, right, because what meditation does? It feels to me personally, and probably many of you, like a freaking, complete waste of time. Right, I know I should be doing it, but there's so many other things that I need to do, that actually need to get done, that are real life, that pay the bills, that help me get things done right, and so I put meditation, or connecting with spirit, really on the back burner 24-7. They pop in all the time. So it's not like I'm missing them, but I hate it, point blank, hate it.

Speaker 1:

But what they were telling me this morning in my meditation is focus on the breathing, focus on the fact that you're setting time for yourself, focus on the fact that you are resetting your brain for the day to be more efficient. You are honing in on the tasks that you're supposed to be doing, and that's literally what they said. They gave me a task list today and they're like work on these today, and not only that, but when you're meditating, you're actually healing your own energy. So there's like this double win of getting guidance and obviously love, but also healing energy in your meditation. That is going to energize you, make you feel better and get you off on the right foot for the day. So I if that's not enough to motivate you, alicia, I don't know what is, but just know you're not alone. Know that some days are going to be better than others. Some days you can probably fit it in, some days you can't. That's totally fine. The more that you create the pattern, the faster and easier it's going to be for your brain to really just get in there and get into that meditative state and give that healing and all that love. So I hope that was helpful. I hope that was helpful. Well, that's all I had for today.

Speaker 1:

Everybody, I just want to thank you so much for being here. I truly humbly appreciate all of your emails. If I don't, even though I don't reply to them one-on-one, I get to them eventually on the podcast. But I just want to thank all of you. I appreciate all of you. So no-transcript.
